Meta-Verse/Web 3.0/Web3
There’s so much misunderstanding around what the Metaverse is and/or is going to be, that even the tech industry as a whole is having difficulty aligning even trivial versioning numbers to the web version it will ride on or perhaps define - let along what it’s actually going to be! Heck, spell checkers can’t even sync on its proper spelling - so we'll just use a bunch of different spellings so we know we have at least one spelling correct.
So what does this mean for you and your organization’s mobile investment? A few points:
- The metaverse is coming
- What that will mean is still up in the air - BUT:
- Jump too early and you waste dollars
- Jump too late and you miss opportunities
- FYI: There is a happy medium...
- It will absolutely make extensive use of your mobile device’s computing power
- Will extensively integrate wearables and AR
- Will provide an extremely lucrative market to new device manufactures as well as software, blockchain, identity, and service providers!
Admittedly, our bias against the VR worlds that are currently being pushed is something we consider unlikely to grab onto the larger user base. Some Hyper tech types and gamers - absolutely, and in the metaverse there are going to be elements of VR - but Stephen King’s “The Lawnmower Man” worlds are unlikely to gain much traction beyond mild entertainment. The metaverse is supposed to be our world interconnected. By the very nature of VR - it “transports” us from the real world to a virtual one. Thus, by definition, you’re exited from your surroundings, and are therefore removed from the metaverse. We don’t believe being transported out of the metaverse is the point of the metaverse.
Grow into Meta
The metaverse has probably had more detriment done to user acceptance with current organizations passing off sub-standard ideas as if those ideas were something great, and these organizations are not fooling the general public. Unfortunately, this has left a large number of very capable organizations not only skeptical of the metaverse but has marred an overall common desire, acceptance, and understanding of its potential. It’s become as strange a conversation to have as it would have been to a business leader in 1975 to convince that organization to invest in the prospect that one day everyone would constantly walk around with their phones.
When considering your Metaverse investments - which we absolutely agree needs to be done with tenuous steps right now, but the Metaverse reality is likely to solidify as one of, or some marriage of the following concepts:
- Semantic Web 3.0 - ML Based
- Spacial Web 3.0 - VR Based
- MetaVerse Web 3.0 - AR Based
- Fully decentralized - Web3
